Title:
HOW THE CREDIT CARD SYSTEM *REALLY* WORKS

Credit cards are the currency of the internet. But they aren't greasing the axles of commerce, because they weren't designed for customer-not-present.

How does the current system *really* work (the banks don't actually know, I've discovered).

What would be a better system?

And, until someone makes it, what can be done to shore up the current system, so that internet commerce can happen without uneconomic amounts of fraud?
