Overview and Interests
Novel broadband applications that are foreseen in the future require a bandwidth in excess of 2 Mb/s. Although wireless communication has emerged as a formidable option in overcoming the last mile problem in transmitting such high data rates, its widespread use is limited due to the severe multipath effects present especially in the urban areas. Multitone modulation systems, such as OFDM promises to be an elegant and efficient method to overcome the limitations of multipath over traditional single carrier systems such as QPSK. My research interests lie in the design of multitone systems such as OFDM systems and other designs of filter bank based multitone modulation schemes. I have looked into frequency offset and timing synchronisation, mitigation of phase noise as well as channel shortening algorithms and channel equalisation.
