Wireless Communications Team

Overview

Research within the Wireless Communications Team encompasses a number of application and technology areas. Traditionally the work has focussed on broadband Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) systems, but more recently the field of research has widened to include wireless local area networks (WLANs), cooperative and relay networks and sensor networks. Within these application areas, research is being conducted which addresses a number of fundamental radio propagation and technology themes that are relevant to a broad range of radio communication systems. These include empirical and electromagnetic based propagation modelling, multi-carrier modulation, space-time coding and spatial multiplexing, turbo and convolutional coding, bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) and iterative decoding, and signal processing for mutliple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection.
