Software

Members of the group have designed and implemented:
  • BCPL, a fore-runner of C and arguably the first highly retargetable compiler in 1966
  • Tripos, a portable operating system
  • MCPL, a typeless language with pattern matching
  • Norcroft Compiler Suite, a high quality optimising ANSI C compiler
  • Codemist Lisp, used as a small and fast implementation basis for Reduce and IBM's Axiom symbolic manipulation systems
  • Valgrind, a system for debugging and profiling Linux programs
Simon Peyton Jones is also responsible for: In numerical terms, these products represent some of the largest distribution of code developed by Computer Laboratory members.
