Computer Lab research student awarded Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Congratulations to research student Vaiva Imbrasaite who has been awarded a Google Anita Borg Scholarship.

Vaiva is a member of the Rainbow Graphics & Interaction Group, under the supervision of Professor Peter Robinson.

Ubisense wins the double

Ubisense, founded by the Computer Laboratory’s Professor Andy Hopper, has won two prestigious UK Queen’s Awards; for International Trade and for Innovation.

The first award for International Trade recognises Ubisense’s outstanding growth in overseas earnings, with export markets now representing 97% of total revenue.

The second award for Innovation has been given to Ubisense for developing a real-time, location-tracking system that can precisely determine the 3D position of tagged objects to a much higher accuracy than is possible with technologies such as GPS.

Financial Times puts Raspberry Pi to the test

Cambridge’s Computer Laboratory has nurtured the Raspberry Pi through its development.

With the release of the first boards, the Financial Times visited the Lab to put the Pi to the test. They challenged Philip Bielby from Jagex Game Studios, and A-level students from Hills Road Sixth Form, to write a fully functional computer game in an hour.
