Leave and absence

Short leave

Application for for Short Leave Requests – Short leave under Statute D, II, 3(b) may be requested through the Head of Department for periods of between two and fourteen nights during Full Term (permission is not needed for an absence of two nights or less).

Notification of absence

Research staff are entitled to 33 days paid annual leave, plus bank holidays. Please ask your supervisor how they wish you to log annual leave. Some supervisors opt to use the Lab's central logging system. This can be done by emailing [Javascript required]

All staff should report sickness absence to their supervisor and by email to [Javascript required]

If you are going away for on holiday, or to a conference etc. it is helpful for administrative staff to know this. Please email the dates and brief details to [Javascript required]

Sabbatical Leave

Academic staff wishing to apply for sabbatical leave should first discuss their plans with the Head of Department and the Chair of the Tripos Management Committee and/or the Advanced Courses Management Committee to ensure that adequate arrangements are in place to cover their lecture courses and ACS/Part III modules. For CST Part IA and Part IB, replacement lecturers must be competent and reliable people, preferably another UTO from within the Department. Later years' courses do not constitute core material, and sometimes it may be appropriate to make a case for a course be suspended for a year during sabbatical leave.

Formal applications for sabbatical leave are made on form CHRIS/67. Completed forms should be submitted to the Secretary of Faculty Board.
