Computer Laboratory

Premium Research Studentship

The Premium Research Studentship is designed to enable exceptional scholars in all areas of computer science to undertake up to three years of full-time research leading to a Ph.D. Degree at the University of Cambridge’s Computer Laboratory. Successful applicants will have demonstrated that they have considered the rôle of computing in the future of the planet.

Who can apply?

Applicants should have at least a good first class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

Applications will not be considered from those who have already started their PhD studies. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding support from public and the Cambridge Trusts. Unsuccessful applicants will normally not be allowed to resubmit in a subsequent year.

Decisions will be taken by the Computer Laboratory Applications Committee and Head of Department: their decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into thereafter.

This scheme lasts for three years for doctoral studentships. All students receiving an award are expected to complete their writing-up and submit their theses in the final year of Computer Laboratory support.

The Computer Laboratory may stipulate as a condition of the award that the student attends specific workshops or summer schools in relevant research methods.
