George's Calculations Using The Best Times As Of June 13, 1996
Hi Mike & Yonatan,
I reran my spreadsheet program on the current.tab times as of 13-June.
In the /.staging directory there are some improvements that are too good
to not include, so I used also:
0:38 for 15
2:46 for 17
0:58 for 24 (Anthe Kren)
3:07 for 29 (Anthe Kren)
I know I saw a COMPET-N recording of 02 recently under 0:45, but I couldn't
find it, so I left 02 at 0:57.
The results are tabulated at the end, first sorted by level and then
overall score (length-rank + %Par length). Length-rank is the best
COMPET-N time, by the way, not the par as you seemed to think in one
of your e-mails, Mike.
Now at a gross level I think this rating scheme does OK, but the finer
points that make a level difficult are not reflected. For example,
notice that 26, 32, 25 and 10 all come in order about in the middle,
while I think we all agree that for one thing 32 is much easier than
the other three.
So instead of dwelling my own "scientific" scheme (which has changed in
ranking only a very little), I instead will take the sets you both last
sent you to see if we can come to a consensus. Mike's level sets
are already an amalgamation of that created by the three of us!!

First, there are the levels you both argee on (and me too, I guess.
Is 16 really medium?? I though maybe it was easy.)
Easiest: 01 18
Easy : 03 08 15 21 27 30
Medium : 11 16 19 20 23
Hard : 06 09 13 14
Hardest: 29
Now, thankfully, this list is larger than when Mike did this. However,
there are 2 levels that were locked before but not now, 31 and 02.
Yonatan changed his mind on these levels, I guess ...
I'm reluctant to call too many levels "hardest" because that means
no D2SG will get assigned these levels. People will probably substitute,
but maybe not.
Here is what I suggest for the remaining levels:
Map02: Despite what Yonatan says I still think this is hard. It's
too bad this was in the easiest set before so no D2SG ever did it.
Map04: Yonatan thinks this one is rather easy but I agree with Mike.
Map05: Now it is Mike that thinks this is easy but I'll agree with Yonatan!
Map07: This one is alot different than the others; there is no
complex route to follow or tricky jumps to make. Just straight
kill, kill, kill, and stay alive in the process. Still, seems a
stretch calling it easy, esp in UV.
Map10: I can't see this one as easy either ...
Map12: I'm not too familiar with this one, those Cacos at the end can
be nasty, I'll go with hard.
Map17: Hard or Hardest?? I still think it's only hard, the par is so
long.
Map22: OK, Yonatan, you've convinced me this is "medium".
Map24: If this is hardest then so is 13, don't you think?? 13 has
a very low par for all you have to do.
Map25: This map is tough, but there's lots of weaponry. It certainly is
easier than 26 in NM, Mike!! So I'm going with medium.
Map26: This map has migrated from easy to hard, Mike!! The par is pretty
long, but it's easy to die. I'll go with hard.
Map28: The par on this one is so long I'm tempted to call it easiest.
I think ID screwed up on the par on this one. OK, but maybe
it is a little tricky.
Map31: Yonatan makes a good case for calling this easiest, thing is
the whole thing looks so similar I'm always making a wrong turn.
So I think it should be easy.
Map32: For D2I, I did this one and still almost got under par, even
including my dance!! Easiest.
Sooooo, this gives:

Hardest: 29
Looks to me like moving a level or two for Medium to Easy would level things
out. Which one, 04 05 07 10??? Hmmm... Maybe 05 or 07.
